Another 21st Century Ailment
If you spend most of your day hunched over a screen, it’s pretty likely you’ll have this. The name alone is self-explanatory.
Its symptoms can range from pain and/or stiffness in the neck, shoulders and/or upper back.
Even if you’re not at a computer every day, think about how many times you check your phone.
Your head weighs around five kilos. As you crane it forward and it’s no longer supported by the rest of the body, it’s a downward force on the cervical spine, (just seven little vertebrae), can be up to twenty-five kilos!
No wonder everyone has headaches, poor posture, and shoulder problems!
What can you do? Using devices is a part of life these days, so we need to manage our time on them sensibly. Take frequent breaks, stretch, do specific neck strengthening exercises, set your computer screen at eye level and make sure your work environment is ergonomically correct and comfortable.
Another biggy is getting regular exercise! Just exercising a few times a week can help your body pull itself back into line. It helps to reset everything because you’re generally aware of posture when you exercise. This reinforces it with your subconscious so correct movement patterns are reinforced.
