Fitness Classes For Seniors

I use weight training and weight training techniques designed to maximise mobility and strength and minimise joint and muscle injuries incurred during normal day to day activity.

Injuries such as these plague older people and very often lead to a rapid downward spiral in health and well-being.

As well keeping people moving, I do a lot of work on balance – a skill that can be learned and maintained.

What Happens In The Classes?

We start with an aerobic warm-up. This is to get the blood circulating around your body and your muscles nice and warm to minimise the risk of injury.

These movements are varied, yet simple. You don’t have to be a dancer. The idea is to move and hopefully, to improve your balance.  No one cares if you’re not in time with the music.

We take a short break to catch our breath and rehydrate, then move on to our strength work.

If you have some dumbbells by all means bring them, but they’re not necessary. Instead, we use everyday items around the home, which makes the sessions very practical to enhance your day-to-day life.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: I’m not fit. I’m afraid of not being able to keep up

A: The classes are not designed for the superfit. Those people have their own places to go. You work at your own pace and the group is empathic and not at all judgemental.

Q: I’m not good with technology, so I’m concerned I’ll have difficulty joining the class

A: Zoom is very straightforward. If you haven’t used it, we can have a practise go with it the day before your first class, so you get familiar with it.

Q: Is it safe for me?

A: Prior to your first class, you must fill out a screening questionnaire. This is to ensure that you haven’t any condition that could be made worse by exercise. We can also easily adapt the exercises to fit in with any restrictions or physical limitations you may have.

Q: I’m worried I won’t know what to do.

A: This is why you have an instructor who is experienced with seniors, (and is one herself). After thirty years in the fitness industry, I’ve learned how to explain things clearly and identify problems and potential risks.

The class size is limited to ten, so you can be properly supervised and don’t get lost in a crowd.

Who Is The Instructor?

My name is Felicity. I’ve been in the fitness industry for over thirty years. I’ve been a gym member, a powerlifter,  a gym manager, a competitive bodybuilder, a sales manager, a class instructor for seniors and I’ve loved every moment of the last three decades.

I still have a passion for strength training and an unwavering belief in its benefits. I’ve had some serious injuries along the way, (some of which still impact me today). I feel this makes me extremely qualified to teach other people with mobility issues.

I can approach another person’s physical difficulties with empathy and understanding born from personal experience.
