STRENGTH WITH PURPOSE

Strength With Purpose classes are fully supervised for seniors and include rhythmic activity, strength training, joint mobility and a guided cool down.

There are three foundations to Strength With Purpose:

  • Aerobic conditioning– to increase endurance and potentially lower the risk of life-threatening conditions from cardio-vascular disease
  • Strength and functional movement to facilitate independent living
  • Balance, coordination and agility – to decrease the risk of injury from falls.

AGILITY, COORDINATION AND BALANCE CLASSES

The agility, coordination and balance components are made up of a series of drills. The drills are designed to enhance hand-eye coordination, skills in changing direction without panicking, and maintaining balance, composure and decision making in unexpected or new situations.

The training is very specific and is designed to boost confidence in navigating everyday life situations like walking through crowds and passing an object between hands e.g., when boarding a bus and being able to change direction easily e.g., if a person nearly walks into you and you need to move out of the way.

One on One Personal Training

Personalised training is also available for older adults that want to fast track improvements to their mobility, balance and muscle strength. All one-on-one training is tailored to individual needs.

FAQS (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS)

I’m not fit, I’m afraid of not being able to keep up

The classes are not designed for the superfit. You work at your own pace. The group is empathic and encouraging.

 Is it safe for me?

Prior to your first class, you must fill out a screening questionnaire. While many exercises can be adapted around some physical limitations, feel confident that I will not work outside my scope of practice.

I’m worried I won’t know what to do.

Teaching you what to do is the instructor’s job. Everyone has to start somewhere.
