Practical tips for active ageing. No selling. Just useful information.
Held each year in Hornsby, Morning Tea and Movement raises funds for The Dish at St Peter’s while bringing people together to connect, learn and enjoy a morning out.
Enjoy a relaxed morning tea, meet new people and come away with ideas you can actually use to make everyday life a little easier.
Gold coin donation
Supporting The Dish at St Peter’s.
Morning tea is included, thanks to the generous support of businesses from our local community.
Parking: Because the event is held during the TAFE holidays, street parking is usually easy to find. Additional parking is also available behind the church.
There’s no need to book. I’ve kept things simple, so you can decide on the day. I’d love to see you if you can make it.
The morning begins with tea, coffee, light refreshments (gluten-free options included) and plenty of time to chat. Catch up with friends, meet new people or simply enjoy getting out for a few hours.
After morning tea, we move into the hall for short talks filled with practical ideas to help you stay strong, active and independent. There will also be time for questions.
Many people come on their own, so if you’re coming by yourself, you certainly won’t be the only one.
Morning Tea & Movement wasn’t part of a grand plan.
I was running exercise classes at St Peter’s Church when I read about The Dish on the noticeboard. After looking them up, I realised how much they did and wanted to help.
I thought I’d invite the people from my classes to a morning tea, ask them to make a small donation. I imagined providing a few biscuits – I was thinking iced Vovos… or perhaps I’d really splash out and buy Tim Tams.
Then I looked around the hall and thought,
“It’s a pretty big hall… maybe I should just invite everyone.”
So I made a list of local seniors groups, designed some very homemade flyers and posters in Canva (I still cringe when I look at them), posted on local Facebook community pages (rather too enthusiastically, if I’m honest) and hoped a few people might come along.
I asked a few local bakers if they had any leftovers they could spare and they came back with,
“We can do better than that. How many people are coming?”
That was just the beginning. More people started asking, “How can I help?” Volunteers offered to distribute flyers, help on the day, organise the sound system, take photographs and give people lifts if they couldn’t get there themselves.
I realised people really do want to do nice things for other people. Sometimes they just need to be given the opportunity.
Felicity is available to speak to community groups and organisations about strength, healthy ageing and practical ways to stay active and independent.
Her talks are friendly, interactive and designed to give people practical ideas they can use in everyday life.
